Tape measures and baby names
Posted:Thursday, 09/16/2010 at 10:09am
Another week into the pregnancy and things are moving right along! I'm now 27 weeks pregnant. (I'm now going to start counting down.)

I just read Jenny McCarthy's book Belly Laughs, and that's exactly what it did...make me laugh and my belly jiggled. I didn't have ALL the symptoms she had while pregnant but I've had most of them! Of course I still have 3 months to go so we'll see what transpires.

I had my latest doctor's appointment this past Monday. It went well. I heard the little buggers heart beat again and had my belly measured. This was the first time she pulled out a tape measure and measured my belly from the pubic bone to my ribs. " 27 cm....right on target", she said. For every week you're pregnant is the size your belly is supposed to be in centimeters. Ok, got it. So, hopefully I won't obsess over this because I want things to be "just right". I have a tape measure in my drawer at home. I already can't wait to measure next week!

So the perfusionist and I are playing the name game. We are tossing around names and haven't decided on one yet but are closing the gap. His choice of names are quite different than mine but it seems like we've met in the middle and have names we both like. I think we'll be waiting until this little boy makes his debut before he gets his name officially. And no, we aren't telling anyone what names we are thinking about because there are too many judgments and opinions from one end of the spectrum to the other! Of course, if you think you have a cool idea for a name then send it along! We are still open to some cool, unique names and we'll be sure to give you credit if we pick it!

Until next week...

XO
Melissa

Hi Melissa, I'm late to the name posting page, but wanted to throw in a few more in case you're still considering. I read a book once and got a kick out of the brothers' names, which were all after Texan cities: Dallas, Austin and Houston. I actually liked the last 2. I also have a fondness for Irish names - Kieran, Declan, Aidan and Shawn (my son's)to name a few. Congratulations on your baby and may he bring you as much happiness and joy as my son has, and may this be a wonderful first Christmas for the three of you!

Martha ArellanoTuesday, 12/07/2010 09:07pm
Hi Melissa! I'm SO excited for you and the perfunsionist. I know you have your names almost figured out, but I just wanted to throw in one more. How about Skylar? My sister had her first baby last year and she named him Skylar. You keep saying the perfusionsit likes different. Just a thought. Well thanks for reading! Good luck! P.S. Hi Midge!

lizaMonday, 11/29/2010 11:47am
My 1st is Bode. My second was just born - Austin, but he was almost braeden.
Good luck!!

Sharon Monday, 11/01/2010 08:58am
You're so right about waiting to see your son before giving him a name. I had my names narrowed down to two and as soon as I saw my daugher, I KNEW she was a Meghan Eileen instead of a Caitlin Rose. You'll know when you see him.

As for boys, I had narrowed it down to Nathan Alexander or Kevin Michael.

Good luck to you!

WOW do I have pg brain DUH you're having a boy. Oh my! If only I could push delete on my last post. Well a boy name suggestion, Bryce
Sorry about my previous duh moment!

Hey Melissa!
Congrats again, I'm just catching up on your posts, but I wanted to throw out there my sweet and beautiful daughter's name is Sienna and it's perfect for her. We love it, and get lots of compliments on her name.
Best wishes to you and your good looking profusionist (nice to put a face with all the stories
Enjoy the last few weeks and get plenty of sleep!

Mom of 2 1/2Thursday, 10/14/2010 03:42pm
I am preggo too, and we find out next week if it's a boy or a girl. If it's a boy; I love Emmett, Shane, and Gavin. My husband likes, Thomas, Finn, Flynn, and Sean. Good luck!!!

Shannon Thursday, 10/14/2010 09:12am
I still like the name Hayden for a boy. That is the name we had picked out if we had a boy. Congrats! Enjoy the last trimester!

AlisonFriday, 10/08/2010 12:45pm
Melissa,
Any name you choose will be the perfect name for your little man! I think picking names was fun! We knew our boys name right away and yes as soon as we told people they were making comments..we didnt care we knew once he was here they would love it as much as we did. So we named him Tristen John! and it fits him! then we had a little girl and named her Norah Paige!
Good luck and i wish you nothing but happiness and health

amyTuesday, 10/05/2010 02:05pm
I had a baby boy on June 1, and we named him Julian. Not weird, but still unique and special. We've gotten a lot of compliments on it, too

MelissaTuesday, 10/05/2010 07:55am
My husband and I on occasion toss around names for our future children. We have learned rather quickly that none of our parents like the Girl Name that we both have agreed on. When the time comes and we are pregnant we will not be sharing ANY names until the little one is born. We have learned our lesson!

Nicole BSunday, 10/03/2010 01:32pm
Congrats!!

I love Jayden!!! But I'm done having kids so it's all yours!!

BertaFriday, 10/01/2010 11:19am
Congratulations Melissa! I think finding a name for your children is one of the hardest parts of the pregnancy! Good luck and I'm sure whatever you pick will be perfect. I love the name Landon.

MamaPattie 4Friday, 10/01/2010 10:24am
Melissa, Congrat's! I'm reading your post and all I can hear is the letter you read (and Eric plays every now and then)to your dad. I lost my dad right after my first child was born and he never got the joy of meeting my other 3 children and his other 5 grandkids. Both of my boys have the same middle name "Thomas" which was my dad's first name. Simple famly names are the best and a great way honor our familys. Best of luck to you and your new family.

Mary McCannThursday, 09/30/2010 10:15pm
My husband and I had a boy (we knew the sex in advance), and never told ANYONE the name because people always always make unnecesary comments. We figured no one would say them after he was born, and they didn't. We named him Joseph Daniel, family names all the way. No silly stories on how anyone knew a Joe they hated, dated, or whatever. Nice. And best of all, every kid at school (daycare) can say his name easier then all the not-so-simple names. Joe is now 3.5 and it is hilarious how he pronounces his friends "fancy" names. HILARIOUS!!!! and the best part is... all his friends say it totally wrong too!!! Aaaaahhh... to be young and innocent again!

ReneeThursday, 09/30/2010 07:54pm
Congratulations! I like the name Alessio. Well whatever you choose, I hope you son is health and has a life full of love and joy.

Mary donovanThursday, 09/30/2010 02:28pm
Hi melissa! Congratulations and best wishes to you! What an exciting time! Just thought I'd pass along my two favorite boys names. Lucas is my oldest and Garron is my youngest. Lucas is obviously more common but I just love both of those names! Good luck!!

KImSunday, 09/26/2010 12:09am
Hi Melissa!!

When I was pregnant with my son I wanted to name him Ian... we compromised on something else but I still like the name to this day.

KarenSaturday, 09/25/2010 08:49am
How about Easton Charles(middle name)?

SarahFriday, 09/24/2010 09:16am
Congratulations Melissa! Imagine my surprise to hear the GREAT news after missing the show during the summer months. I am so happy for you and the perfusionist. Two questions. Why is Eric calling the baby "Boozer" and are you and the prefusionist thinking about marriage? Best of luck to all of you. LOVE THE SHOW.

KaraFriday, 09/24/2010 09:14am
We didn't want to tell anyone the names we picked either after a Thanksgiving of "here's what you should name your child". That was a fun game My husband and I were split between Dillon and Connor, and picked Dillon after we saw him. I also liked Nolan or Parker, but was vetoed. If we have another boy, those are back on the table

ColleenFriday, 09/24/2010 08:38am
Hi Melissa,

Congratulations! I hope you are enjoying your pregnancy. I loved being pregnant. Choosing a name is difficult. I have 2 boys, who are now 17 and 16, and both of them really like their names. I have Brendan and Nolan. Good luck to you, and remember labor and delivery is just one day!

MicheleThursday, 09/23/2010 06:14pm
My husband and I were never able to have children, but when we were going through fertility treatments we had the following boy's names picked out:

Kiernan
Finnigan
Tate

OK, so I had them picked out. He wanted to do the traditional thing of naming a baby after it's grandparents.

Congrats!

LisaThursday, 09/23/2010 02:37pm
Congrats Melissa!

Boy name idea- my son's name is Sawyer. I found it in the Cool Names For Baby Book. There were many great names in that book. Check it out!

Love listening to you in the morning!! Best of luck to you and the perfusionist

Hi Melissa -
I have apparently been out of the loop. I always listen to you guys in the morning while driving my kids to school, but hadn't done that all summer and had cuaght the show a little less than normal. Imagine my surprise when I heard you talking yesterday about being pregnant. Big congratulations!
I will keep listening and reading about your progress.
Also - my oldest daughters birthday is December 14th, it's a great time of year to have a baby

ClareWednesday, 09/22/2010 09:52pm
Murphy! Sounds so cool and yet tough. My firend's grandson's name is Murphy Legand (then his last name)

Kristin M.Wednesday, 09/22/2010 08:49pm
Congrats on the pregnancy. Picking a name is such a hard decision. Right now I have 1 boy and 1 girl. If my husband and I were to have another baby and it be a boy, I looked into Jaxon (you can call him Jax for short) or Rylan. Hope the suggestions help and good luck the rest of your pregnancy!!!

HeatherTuesday, 09/21/2010 09:27pm
Hi Melissa,
Your picture on FB is beautiful! You look awesome. I am so happy for you and the perfusionist. I have two boys. Well they are not boys anymore. Frankie is 18 and Joshua is 15. I am remarried and my husband does not have any children of his own. We have talked about having one togeather. We said if we did get pregnant and it was a boy we would name him Hunter. My friend just had a little one and she named him Jackson which I love too. Good luck and enjoy every moment of your pregnancy. You will never forget it and the delivery too! Im looking forward to more blogs. PS you make the morning show the best! I love listening and you are my favorite! Best of luck girl!
Heather

Hello Melissa and friends;
Just wanted to let everyone know that Melissa is absolutely beautiful pregnant. I'm sworn to secrecy on some name choices but they are all good. Love ya!

SarahMonday, 09/20/2010 09:57pm
Hi Melissa, Perfusionist, and Midge!

I'm very glad to hear things are going so well for you. This is a website I gave my cousin as she searched for names with specific meanings for her new little one.

http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/advanced-search.html

I hope as you choose a name, you give your new little one a strong identity that he will develop as he grows. Best wishes!

AnnaMonday, 09/20/2010 04:11pm
The book I enjoyed reading during my first pregnancy is, The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. My cousin lent it to me, so I can't remember the author, but it was fun and factual!

CarmenMonday, 09/20/2010 02:44pm
Hey Melissa - We had a hard time picking names out for our first born (who was a boy). We wound up flipping a coin because we couldn't decide. My husband won, and we named my son Logan (which is actually a pretty common name now).

I am pregnant again with my second - we're having a girl this time, but had it been a boy, we would have gone with Nolan.

Good luck with everything! Love you and the show!!!

JeanetteMonday, 09/20/2010 01:10pm
Hi Melissa. I'm so excited for you and love reading your blog. I've always loved the name Benjamin. Hi Midge!

Sharon FalascoMonday, 09/20/2010 11:16am
CONGRATULATIONS Melissa and the Perfusionist!!! 27 weeks! Awesome! You look beautiful. Domenic is a great name for a boy. Unique and not common. Very strong too. Good luck Melissa! I love all of you!

michael , aiden.jacobMonday, 09/20/2010 10:27am
i know too common

KristinMonday, 09/20/2010 10:14am
A great name to consider is Declan! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

LisaFriday, 09/17/2010 02:57pm
Congrats Melissa on the upcoming arrival of your baby boy. I have a 20 month old son and he is the light of my life. You have no idea how much fun you are in for. Baby boy's really love their mama's let me tell you!!!

I've been listening to Eric and Kathy since high school, I'm now almost 31 and you are my favorite on the show and always have been : )

I'm sure you can't wait to be a mom! My only advice is to sleep as much as you can now, just soak up all the alone time you can manage bc once he arrives it's all about him!

I hope the rest of your pregnancy progresses smoothly for you and looking forward to more baby updates!!!

Most sincerely,
Lisa

Michelle VFriday, 09/17/2010 08:06am
Its good to have some names ready but ultimately its best to wait until he makes his debut and you get a real chance to hold and look at your baby boy!
I dreamt I was having twin boys before I found out I was having a boy during my first pregnancy. In my dream, I named the babies some family names so those stayed in my mind. But it took me a day to name my son after he was born, partly because of complications during pregnancy that delayed the normal interaction with Louis.
But I assume Uncle Eric is going to keep on his nickname, Boozer!
Best of Luck for a healthy and happy pregnancy and delivery!!

DawnFriday, 09/17/2010 03:15am
I love you all!!!!! I listen to the podcasts while I'm at work on ugh 3rd shift! Wish it was the entire show, music and all but I'll take what I can get!
Ok, to the point we name our son Chevie (spelled different but pronounced like the car). My husband got to choose a boys name so it was that or Clarence. Yuck. Best of luck!

AlinaThursday, 09/16/2010 12:44pm
We had a hard time naming our son but we settled on Westin Madix. I always wanted Julian for a boys name and my husband wanted Jeron. Good luck on picking a name!
